Research

Your research and external resources are vital to both your own process as you gain knowledge and expand your photography outwards. It can help you identify key concepts, understand your potential audience or just inspire your imagination. We require that you produce some documentation of your research process for each brief, please see the Project 4 – Process page for an example of a completed research section.

Quoting and referencing:

We understand that a large part of your research will be done online, please try and fact check your sources to make sure the information you are receiving is creditable. In the case of images, be extra careful that they are by the person you expect them to be , as it’s not uncommon for homage images, made in the style of another practitioner to be mistaken for the originals.

When referring to a piece of text, use the quote button on the toolbar above to box in text and make it clear that the words are not your own, please also link in the original source underneath. Simply press the link button and copy and paste your url in to make it work.

Dalston Anatomy is a book project, a multi-layered installation, and a visual celebration of the Ridley Road Market in East London. Vitturi recognised the market as a unique place where ‘different cultures merge together in a celebration of life, diversity and unstoppable energy’ and was inspired to capture this place before it transformed beyond recognition.

Residing in the area for over seven years, Vitturi visited the market daily and witnessed the local community, economy and the very nature of the market changing around him with striking acceleration. From this complicated process of transformation stems Vitturi’s compulsion to collect and picture the objects found at the market.

The same applies to images, we suggest you add a caption wherever possible to any referenced images including the name of author, title of piece and year of production, as follows…. you can also make your image itself into a link, to directly refer back to the source. This will remove the ability to see a larger version when clicking and will go straight to the original link.
